The Popular Democratic Movement's President, McHenry Venaani, has called on United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to intervene in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Venaani said this during the PDM management central committee meeting at Rundu.

Venaani says the crisis in Europe has negatively impacted other countries, citing food delivery in Sub-Saharan Africa.

"Can't we give world peace a chance? We would like to employ United Nations Secretary General Guterres to call upon the sensation of hostilities in Russia and Ukraine because this war has a direct effect on many Africans as it has an effect on great productions and the lack of delivery of food in Sub-Saharan Africa. Not only that, but the world cannot afford the players playing the game of nuclear threats. Nuclear threats threaten our children, and nuclear threats threaten the children of those who are playing those games. As PDM, we are asking for sensational hostility, and we are asking for the United Nations to intervene and make sure to bring peace between Ukraine and Russia."

PDM's President also called for the return of peace in Sudan.

"Over 3.1 million people have been displaced in that part of the world. We are noticing the efforts of the Presidents of Egypt and Ethiopia, together with the Chairperson of the AU Commission, and their great initiative. But we are also calling as PDM for the sensational hostility in Sudan because the war in Sudan is unnecessary, it's a war of precision because of the gold that is being smuggled out of that country. We ask the two generals, one of whom is known to me as General Maneti, that we must bring an end to the war in Sudan and give peace a chance in that part of the world."

With Zimbabweans going to the polls on August 23, Venaani hopes for free and fair elections.

"We are calling for free and fair elections in Zimbabwe, and we are calling for all political prisoners to be released and to make sure that the political terrain in that part of the world is fair in the interest of the people in the country."
