The Roads Authority (RA) has inaugurated its first-ever NaTIS Mobile Vehicle Testing Station at Rehoboth.

The N$6 million mobile testing facility will visit all the regions.

The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, says the testing vehicle will reach remote areas where such services are nonexistent and eliminate the long distances that people have to travel for services.

The facility offers services such as testing vehicles for roadworthiness.

"We also realised that in addition to the fixed ones, people need the services now, and that is the context in which we have decided about these mobile things. And we must also appeal to those who must get these services to work together with the officials of NaTIS because we should not condemn, cry, and criticise the noble ideas so that people can get the services. All that I am asking here is collaboration and teamwork, but those of us who are employed must be extra responsible," said Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa.

He said if people do not make optimal use of the facility, it can be suspended or cancelled.

Mutorwa, therefore, urged the Roads Authority to make sure the mobile facility is operational at all times.

The Road Authority's Chief Executive Officer, Conrad Lutombi, says that the process will commence in the Hardap and ||Kharas regions for the next three months.

"The testing station will be used by the Roads Authority's Traffic Law Enforcement Team during the festive season road safety operations as well as at trade fairs. The RA's intention is to procure four more mobile vehicle testing stations, which will be used in various regions as funds become available."

Rehoboth Mayor Amanda Groenewaldt applauded the RA for such a facility, which she says is convenient and speaks to effective and efficient service.

Results on the roadworthiness of the vehicles take about 45 minutes.
