The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) concluded its consultative engagements on the Data Protection Bill in all fourteen regions.

The bill, whose consultations ended at Gobabis, aims to protect the right to privacy with respect to the processing of personal data and govern the processing of personal information by private and public bodies.

"It allows us to decide how our data may be collected, used, and shared by respecting individuals' autonomy. Data privacy will ensure that personal information is not exploited or misused without your consent, and the key word here is consent, so the processing and use of your data is not wrong. Institutions can use your information, but you must say that yes, you can use my information," explained Emma Theofelus, the deputy ICT Minister.

Omaheke Regional Council Chairperson Ignatius Kariseb is of the opinion that the consultations were necessary to shape the Bill.

"I strongly encourage each of you to actively participate in this consultative process. Your insights and input on this draft bill are vital to the development of a robust legal framework."
