International Symposium on the Future of Sports Tourism and Infrastructure Management Held in Swakopmund. The Dome in Swakopmund recently hosted an International Symposium focused on the future of sports tourism, sports facilities, and infrastructure management. This collaborative event was organized by the Namibia Sports Commission in partnership with Oshiteyatemo Sports Management. The primary objective of the symposium was to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among local authorities, town councils, municipalities, academics from universities and schools, as well as individuals involved in tourism, sports tourism, sports facilities, and independent sports enthusiasts.

During the symposium, six speakers shared their best practices, providing participants from various regions with insights into the challenges they currently face and potential solutions. Peter Maware, an Ecosystem Analyst, highlighted the importance of follow-up activities to monitor and evaluate the progress made by participants upon returning to their respective regions. He mentioned plans to visit different regions in 2024 to assess their advancements in implementing the knowledge gained from the symposium.

An integral part of the symposium was a site visit to observe the challenges associated with the construction and maintenance of sports facilities. Organizers placed emphasis on assessing methods for maintaining these facilities to meet international standards and effectively manage them. Maware, the Ecosystem Analyst, expressed the significance of finding solutions to overcome these challenges and ensuring that the facilities adhere to international guidelines.

Participants found the two-day conference to be highly educational and interactive. It provided them with a platform to transfer knowledge back to their respective regions, enabling the dissemination of valuable information throughout the country.

The International Symposium on the Future of Sports Tourism and Infrastructure Management held in Swakopmund serves as a vital step in enhancing collaboration and promoting the development of sports facilities and tourism in Namibia. By bringing together key stakeholders and sharing best practices, the event contributes to the growth and improvement of sports infrastructure throughout the country.
