Swapo Party Deputy Secretary General Uahekua Herunga has cautioned party members to desist from calling for an extraordinary congress to elect a new presidential candidate for the 2024 national elections.

Herunga reminded members that the Swapo Party is guided by the constitution, rules, and procedures. He said the election of the presidential candidates is done and dusted, and Nandi-Ndaitwah remains the Swapo Party's sole presidential candidate.

"Page 43, paragraph 53, and I read party candidate for the presidency of the republic, the president of the party shall automatically be the party candidate of the republic, where such party president is bared by the Namibian constitution to be a presidential candidate on account of having served two terms as president of the republic, the VP shall automatically be the President of the Republic. Therefore, on the question of where the sole candidate came from, it is from the Swapo Party document that guides all of us, and it is the same document that we are going to use for the electoral college next year. I hope this is clear and is buried for those of you who would like to convey that there will be no extra Swapo Congress for 2024."
