Landless People's Movement Chief Change Campaigner Bernardus Swartbooi wants to see community shareholding in emerging green hydrogen, oil, and gas sectors in the ||Kharas Regon.

"So our thinking is, in respect of the oil, councillor Isaak and councillor Labuschagne, in respect of the oil and gas, in respect of the green hydrogen, we must form community trusts that will be shareholders in green hydrogen in the oil and gas sector; otherwise, communities will be completely left out because if you just want to go businesses into oil and gas, they can sideline you, but we must create a different type of ownership model and say we have a community trust from ||kharas, we have a community trust from Hardap, and this community trust must become shareholders."

Swartbooi also called for a fair share of 5,000 hectares of land earmarked for irrigation at the Neckartal Dam Irrigation Scheme.

"Chairperson of the Regional Council, please work hard so that we can get this thing called Neckartal Dam going. Let us make noise, and let us even with green hydrogen and with oil and gas. Let us prepare ourselves to take this government to court if they do not give the southern part its share of the deal. Let us go to court; let us litigate; we have strong legal arguments even in respect of Neckartal Dam; let us litigate; we have not given that piece of land for decoration; we have not said there must be a wall built just to keep water; for what?"

Swartbooi was addressing the residents of Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency.
