Members of the Namibia Seaman and Allied Workers Union (NASAWU) at Luderitz staged a demonstration accusing the management of sidelining employees and failing to regularly consult and disclose their benefits from the Trust Fund that was established 26 years ago.
According to the workers, the Novanam Staff Trust is supposed to provide incentives to employees to remain in the services of the company, its subsidiaries, and associates.
It is also meant to encourage employees to acquire shares in the company in order to create or increase their proprietary interest in the company's success.
The group is also demanding that NovaNam disclose the amount of the fishing quota and the monetary value received from the government since the establishment of the trust.
The demands also include that NovaNam management disclose the names of the trust shareholders and board of directors.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources was the Control Fisheries Inspector, Desmond Bester.
The group of NovaNam workers say they will continue to demonstrate daily during their lunch break until their concerns are addressed.
