Learners at Chairman Mao Zedong High School are urged to take up careers in line with their passion and the availability of opportunities in the country.
These were the sentiments of Education Director Paulus Nghikembua at the |Khomas Region Career Fair.
Learners from different schools came out in numbers to engage with a variety of exhibitors from agencies and institutions such as the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC), International Training College Lingua, the Institute of Open Learning, and Triumphant College.
Speaking at the occasion, the |Khomas Education Director pointed out that career fairs are vital to expose learners to different careers.
"Education that does not pave the way for a career falls short of its true meaning; in other words, throughout your education journey, if it does not lead you to a career, then that particular contribution falls short. Education should not be an excuse to impart knowledge but also to guide individuals towards careers that contribute fully to the development of our nation."
The Governor of the |Khomas Region, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, reminded the learners that a career choice is that of the learners and not their parents.
"The choice is yours; the ball is in your hands. This country is in capable hands. Let the sky be the limit. We must decide; you must decide what should happen with you; what do I want to become; what does the future hold for me; and who am I to find myself."
