President Hage Geingob has called on the UN Security Council to act swiftly and ensure that resolutions regarding the rights of the people of Palestine to live in peace are respected and for them to determine their own future.
Dr. Geingob, in a statement, further appealed for peace between Israel and Palestine and called for an end to the killing of innocent civilians and the destruction of infrastructure in the occupied Gaza Strip.
He says the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza is concerning, following deadly attacks by the Israel Defence Force on innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as civilian infrastructure.
The Namibian leader thus called on the international community to specifically end the large-scale violence and air strikes by Israel against the people of Gaza, describing the Israel order to people in northern Gaza to leave their homes and livelihoods within 24 hours as inhumane.
This decision amounts to a genocidal act and must be rescinded, Geingob says.
He also called on the Palestinian armed group Hamas to desist from any horrific acts of violence that target civilians, leading to the escalation of the conflict and the release of hostages in line with international law.
Dr. Geingob's appeal further extended to all warring parties to return to the negotiating table and pursue the moral path of a two-state solution in which Palestinians and Israelis can coexist peacefully.
He expressed condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
