The European Union Commission has announced the bloc's intention to suspend financial aid to Israel over its war in Gaza.

The Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement during the State of the Union address at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, on Wednesday.

The Namibian government has expressed deep concern over Israel’s plan to take control of Gaza City.

The plan was recently approved by the Israeli Cabinet, as announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The plan has since drawn wide criticism from the international community.

Namibia has condemned the targeted Israeli attack that killed six journalists in Gaza, including four from Al Jazeera, among them correspondent Anas al-Sharif, in an airstrike on Sunday, 10 August 2025.

Palestinian Presidential Advisor Dr. Riyad Malki rejected the proposal by President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to East African Arab countries, including Sudan, Somalia, and Somaliland. 

President Nangolo Mbumba has appealed to the United Nations General Assembly to support the modalities to actualize the advisory opinion rendered by the International Court of Justice regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza. 

The International Court of Justice has ruled in favour of South Africa's request for emergency measures in its genocide case against Israel.

Egypt has hailed Namibia's position in Israel's war on Gaza, which calls for an end to attacks and for Israel to refrain from engaging in provocative acts against the Palestinian people.

President Hage Geingob has called on the UN Security Council to act swiftly and ensure that resolutions regarding the rights of the people of Palestine to live in peace are respected and for them to determine their own future.

Namibia has welcomed the ceasefire between Egypt and Gaza.

The ceasefire ends a five-day Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed many innocent civilian lives and left countless injured.
