Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the farming communities in Otjombinde and the surrounding areas are striving to produce quality livestock and crops.

The region hosted yet another industrial and agricultural show at Talismanus.

Speaking at Talismanus, Otjombinde Constituency Councillor Wenzel Kavaka stated that, with persistent years of drought, farmers need to rethink the traditional practice of keeping large herds of livestock and instead focus on producing quality products.

"The farming practices we used to have must be changed now, modern farming is to work on quality, and it's us who should do that. These events are the modalities we need to find."

The Chairperson of the Otjombinde Farmers Association, Vetuundja Kazapua, says farmers are key pillars of the agricultural sector, hence, events such as these should share relevant and timely information about agriculture-related activities.

"We bring people together and livestock businesses to share information and learn from each other, those are the key objectives of having an agricultural and industrial show."

Kaituu Tjozongoro, a traditional leader from Otjombinde, challenged the organising committee to come up with a trade fair.

"Next year, we want the first Otjombinde trade fair to happen here, and I'm here to work with you on that assignment.'

Participants at the show welcomed the event.

The Advisory and Extension Director of MeatCo Namibia, Paul Tjaimba, says, "As MeatCo, we are committed, and we also acknowledged that farmers for the past two years have slaughtered around 35,000 cattle, and this year we are at more than 50,000 cattle, and that is actually a commitment from our farmers."
