Police in the Kavango West Region are determined to maintain peace and order in the region, despite the region recording fewer cases on a daily basis.

Kavango West Regional Commander Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo made the comments at a regional crime prevention operation over the weekend.

Commissioner Sakuwa-Neo told the nbc News that Kavango West is the safest at the moment compared to other regions.

She explains that this is because the region is rurally dominant.

"Our crime in the region is manageable; we don't really have much crime, but because we have a lot of housebreaking, assault, GBV, and theft happening, particularly in town Nkurenkuru, that is why we planned this operation just to clean up; the visibility perhaps is going to help reduce some of those housebreaking and theft that are happening."

Assault is the highest crime recorded in the region.

"We have assault through threatening, which is now rated with domestic violence; like in September, we recorded 136 out of these 34 as assault, followed by theft."

During the three-day operation, two suspects were arrested, 118 illicit items were confiscated worth N$1,591, and 15 traffic summonses were issued.

The Regional Commander called on the community to be vigilant at all times.

"We also assure them that we will be there every time on the ground; we will be visible, and we also need their effort to meet us halfway, that is, through reporting whenever they see any suspicious movement wherever they are in the field so that we can now attend to those complaints."
