The National Unity Democratic Organisation's (NUDO) Secretary General, Joseph Kauandenge, has declared his intention to contest for the party's presidency in next year's national elections.
He will go head-to-head with the current president, Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue.
Kauandenge, who is also an MP for the NUDO party in the National Assembly, expressed his commitment to a transformative agenda and underscored the vital role of the youth as catalysts for driving positive change within the party and the nation.
"The youth should be the voice, but do they have the platform in order to contribute constructively towards society? In my outlook, I would try to see what strategies I can bring onboard and empower them to enable them to contribute, not only through NUDO."
Emphasising the need for a visionary and inclusive leadership style, Kauandenge aims to bring a fresh perspective and dynamic ideas to the forefront.
His vision centres on fostering a new era within NUDO marked by innovation, inclusivity, and forward-thinking strategies.
"We are unapologetic as a party because NUDO was formed under the traditional authority; when we are termed a Herero party, we cannot run away from it, predominantly other parties. We are saying we must transform the party to include everybody."
Kauandenge anticipates a competitive and energised race leading up to the 2024 elections.
The declaration signals a pivotal moment for the party as it considers potential leadership transitions and sets the stage for a renewed focus on addressing the aspirations and concerns of its members and the broader Namibian community.
