The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture has resolved to focus on literacy and numeracy skills in the lower primary school phases to lay a strong foundation for tertiary education.
Deputy Minister Faustina Calley said this when she outlined the ministry's future plans during the President's media briefing on Monday.
Among the issues the ministry will focus on are infrastructure, literacy programmes, and digital learning.
The Deputy Minister also spoke of the approved recommendations from the national congress held in August, with a focus on inclusive, equitable, and safe schools, skills development, and organisational improvements.
Caley also touched on enrollment figures in both government and private schools.
"For this year, we have 800,647 learners, which we placed in 2002 schools, of which 1722 are government and 280 are private. We entrust these learners to be taught by 31,974 teachers."
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the ministry's future plans, adding that Grade 12 learners are now connected to the internet, facilitating collaborative learning.
