Between January and November 2023, 183 crimes were committed against women and children in the Kavango West Region.

The region has now joined the rest of the country in carrying out "Operation Basadi," targeting wanted persons for violence against women, children, and the elderly.

Members of the Namibian Police Force in Kavango West took to the streets of Nkurenkuru, signifying the start of "Operation Basadi," which will run until December 6.

The crimes of focus will be rape, murder, kidnapping, various forms of assault, domestic violence, baby dumping, and human trafficking, among others.

The Regional Commander of Kavango West, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, elaborates on some of the crimes committed against women and children between January and November 2023.

The Regional Commander is advising community members who are aware of these crimes to report them to the police.

"To all parents, I know they are protecting their loved ones; sometimes they won't report; sometimes they will say we will settle it within the family or they will do it traditionally. Our message is to say, come and report."

Operation Basadi will also be carried out in all SADC member states.
