In a significant development within the police force, the recent promotions are making a substantial impact, overcoming longstanding barriers in the system.
In the Zambezi Region, a remarkable stride has been made, with 310 out of 364 recommended positions now filled.
The Police Commander in the Zambezi Region, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, stated that the promotions filled vacant positions at various stations around the region.
Shilelo said the ranks, however, come with re-dedication and commitment.
"As you know, ranks are not just given for nothing; ranks are given with responsibility, so it is the beginning of leadership. Those who are going to have those ranks will have members under you, as you know that the only constable who does not have members according to our structure."
The 310 commissioned officers were promoted to ranks including sergeant class one and two as well as warrant officers class one and two.
Commissioner Shilelo said there could be many reasons why 54 of the recommended posts may not have been approved, which could include budget allocations.
"I'm sure we will get a written response as to what the effect is, do you understand? I'm just talking because I'm a member of police management, so a written reconciliation as to why we did not get the number that we recommended will come from the inspector general's office."
The large number of promotions is the first of its kind in the region's history.
