Zambezi Region ready to host 34th Independence Day celebrations

Preparations for the 34th Independence Day celebrations are progressing well at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex. 

The event will be hosted in the town for the first time since independence.

The usual mood in the capital city of the Zambezi Region is now hyped by the activities and the arrival of people coming from other towns and regions.

Residents are grateful for the decision to finally celebrate the national celebration in their town. 

Security guaranteed during 34th independence celebrations

During an engagement with the public and community policing forums, the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, called on all Namibians across the country to join in the 34th Independence celebrations at Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region.

It will be the first time that the region is hosting national independence day celebrations since the country gained independence in 1990.

Dr. Kawana therefore urged residents of the Zambezi Region to go out in their numbers and witness what they have been waiting for for years.

NamPol launches 'community against crime' initiative

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, and Safety and Security launched the "community against crime" initiative through a tournament hosted in Kalimbeza in the Zambezi Region.

Speaking at the official opening on Thursday, the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, and Safety and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, said the youth, in particular, should be actively involved in fighting crime in their areas instead of being part of the problem.

Dr. Kawana added that community involvement would greatly complement the police efforts in successfully combating crime.

NamPol's mass promotions fill gaps in vacancy slots

In a significant development within the police force, the recent promotions are making a substantial impact, overcoming longstanding barriers in the system.

In the Zambezi Region, a remarkable stride has been made, with 310 out of 364 recommended positions now filled.

The Police Commander in the Zambezi Region, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, stated that the promotions filled vacant positions at various stations around the region.

Shilelo said the ranks, however, come with re-dedication and commitment.
