The Inspector General of the Police, Joseph Shikongo, has firmly instructed officers in the Zambezi Region not to compromise on the safety of the public.
This directive was emphasized by Lieutenant Joseph Shikongo during his remarks at a police parade in Katima Mulilo.
Lieutenant Shikongo assured the officers of his office support and that of the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security to ensure that the community is served.
He also hailed the cooperation and collaboration between the police, the NDF, NamRa, the ministries of home affairs, environment, and fisheries.
Lieutenant General Shikongo wants to see these relationships elevated to achieve the desired results.
"Quality of investigations, dealing with the docket, make sure that you complete your investigations on time and provide feedback under Pol 713, that progress report to the complainant, We don't want people calling us and saying they opened a case and there is nothing coming forth; we don't need them to do that."
He warned that, just like any other region, security in Zambezi should not be compromised by any means.
"We know there is a group of people who are demanding to cut Zambezi or they call it Caprivi from the rest of Namibia and Honarable Minister I have been on record that Namibia is free forever, Namibia is indepedent in it's totalily and as Inspector General responsible for internal security I will make sure my duty to make sure that Namibia remain intact, and therefore we are not at advocating violence but anybody who is playing around provoking the peace and stability of our republic obvously the longer arm of the law will be exercised, therefore we have make sure that we have got the capacity of ensuring that our country is safe, our country remain peaceful and our country including this region. The Police Inspector General also announced the appointment of a new unit commander for the Reserve Force, Johannes Paulus, who was promoted from the rank of Inspector to Chief Inspector, replacing Chief Inspector Willem Goeimann, who has been transferred closer to home as he nears retirement.
The appointment and promotion were accompanied by instructions to ensure public law and order are maintained with respect, dedication, and standard operating procedures.
Paulus's promotion is effective as of the first of this month.
