Residents of Katima Mulilo's Nova Settlement have once again been left in the open following Wednesday's strong winds accompanied by rain.

Speaking to the nbc News team, some of the affected residents say not much could be done at the time their zinc roofs were blown off.

The strong winds, accompanied by rain, damaged identity documents, food, clothing, furniture, and dwellings.

The affected residents, most of whom are unemployed or low-income earners, look up to the local leadership for assistance.

Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency Councillor Kennedy Simasiku confirmed that apart from damage to the home, two people sustained injuries.

Simasiku said the regional council and town council are jointly working towards assisting them.

''In fact, we have now triggered a disaster risk response; we have contacted the disaster risk office in conjunction with the town council, and we shall assess and see how we can assist on the ground. It is unfortunate; it looks like some of them are not permanent structures and they are prone to these weather conditions, and it is expected time and again that if they are severe conditions, they do affect the residents and houses of our people.’’
