Nova Settlement residents left homeless after strong rains

Residents of Katima Mulilo's Nova Settlement have once again been left in the open following Wednesday's strong winds accompanied by rain.

Speaking to the nbc News team, some of the affected residents say not much could be done at the time their zinc roofs were blown off.

The strong winds, accompanied by rain, damaged identity documents, food, clothing, furniture, and dwellings.

The affected residents, most of whom are unemployed or low-income earners, look up to the local leadership for assistance.

Omusati residents welcome rain

Omusati residents welcomed the much-awaited rain, which brought relief to both humans and animals.

Some of those we spoke to at Omaulai village say they have been receiving showers for the past few days, but last night's rainfall filled oshanas with water.

Some crop farmers can, however, not start to plough their fields as some are too wet and some are partly submerged.

People who settled in flood-prone areas have started to feel the pinch, with some residents blaming the headmen and women for allocating plots to desperate land seekers on waterways.

Headwoman Namundjebo-Tilahun aids farmers affected by drought

The headwoman of Ohailombo Village, Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun, has brought hope and relief to the farmers in Eengodi and Nehale LyaMpingana constituencies in the Oshikoto Region.

A lack of adequate rainfall this year has affected many people, let alone livestock.

Previously, during this time of the year, farmers could be seen transporting their animals from the main land to the cattle posts for better grazing.

However, with global warming, the situation has changed.

Heavy rains destroy 36 homesteads in Kavango East Region

About 36 homesteads were damaged by heavy rains during this week at Shamaghongo Village in Kavango East Region. Currently some affected villagers are being accommodated in their neighbours' houses. The Councilor of Mukwe Constituency Damian Maghambayi called on good Samaritans to assist the villagers. He stress that it takes long for one to fix a damaged thatch roof house, and hopes that those left homeless could be accommodated in tents.

Farmers at #Hoas happy with good rains

Farmers on the outskirts of Windhoek's Satan Slog settlement, known as ǂHoas, are pleased with the good rains that continue to fall in their area and are optimistic about the coming farming season.

The nbc News team visited some farmers to hear their accounts. 

This is a season that often comes with a sigh of relief for many citizens, particularly farmers. 

Those living at ǂHoas, like Abel !Kharuxab, say grazing for their livestock has drastically improved after enduring a very difficult and dry season last year.

Rain and strong wind blows off roofs of 12 houses at Okombahe

Rain accompanied by a strong wind has blown off the roofs of 12 houses at Okombahe in the Daures Constituency.

The storm also damaged several buildings and uprooted trees, including the famous Acacia, causing further damage to two cars.
 
Several electrical cables were pulled out, leaving the settlement without electricity for up to three hours.
 
A resident, Adolfine #Goses, narrates how she survived the storm while preparing a meal in the kitchen.
 
Her bedroom is left completely without a roof.

Windhoek residents welcome first drops of rain

It was a rainy afternoon with hailstones in some parts of the capital city, Windhoek, presenting a welcome relief from the past days of hot weather conditions.

Last week, the capital city experienced warm to hot temperatures of between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius.

The thundershowers, say the weather forecasters, will persist over the interior for the rest of the day into early next week.
