There were no major crimes recorded during the kick-off of this year's festive season in the Oshana Region.

This was stated by Oshana Police Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria in an interview with nbc News.

"So far, we want to thank everyone because the behaviours are good, we don't have major issues that are reported to us, no major serious crimes apart from two housebreakings, one for the business premises and one for a house, we do not really meet some serious other crimes, so to speak."

Commissioner Sakaria called on home owners not to leave their houses without supervision when they go on holidays, but in an event where there is no one at all, they should notify the police or the neighbourhood watch groups.

Thus far, seven people have been arrested for drinking and driving in Ondangwa, Ongwediva, and Oshakati.

"We want to warn people that the traffic is deployed intentionally to make sure that we don't have accidents on the road, and one thing to prevent accidents is not to allow drinkers and drivers on the road because the judgement is distorted and people cannot see things as they are, and that led to accidents."

The police have deployed teams around the region to maintain law and order.

"We took everyone out of the office; we have the festive season operation, normal station operation, and promotion operation. The members who were recently promoted are also running their own thing. I don't want them to go on leave; they just got new ranks. They must work. I am working; they must also work."
