Nineteen families whose homes were destroyed in a fire on Sunday at Windhoek's Katutura Multi-Purpose Centre have received food items.

However, rebuilding their lives will be a struggle, they say.

The 19 home structures that were gutted by the fire left approximately 10 children, ranging in age from one to 16, without a roof over their heads.

The disaster department of the City of Windhoek contributed blankets to the children of the affected mothers.

Despite the initial support, residents expressed concerns about the unavailability of resources to rebuild their lives, let alone shelter.

Clothing, bedding, and essential supplies remain a priority as the community endeavours to restore a sense of normalcy.

The affected families have also raised the concern of people soliciting donations in their names, which at times does not benefit fire victims.

They say that anyone wishing to assist them should do so directly.

The affected families are, however, grateful for the support received thus far.
