The Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo has for the first time publicly addressed the tragic road accident in which he was involved in December 2022, leading to the loss of three young lives along the Ondangwa-Oshikango road.
Lieutenant General Shikongo asserts that his case has been unnecessarily politicised and emphasises that he has not interfered with the ongoing investigations.
The accident claimed the lives of Sofia Ananias, Frans Ndengu, and Stefanus Lukas.
A group of individuals staged a demonstration, asking the police chief to relinquish his position and to apologise to the affected families.
"We, as people of this country, don't think anybody will have the audacity to crash a vehicle or cause an accident internationally. Let the law take its own course, basically the court process, and we have strong roots. That matter has been taken to be traditional, and some of the matters are actually being resolved traditionally."
The case awaits a decision from Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa.
