Namibia says it would welcome the indication of provisional measures by the International Court of Justice for Israel to immediately comply with its obligations.

Namibia reiterated its condemnation against Israel for the killing of innocent civilians and the forcible displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the remainder of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

It is against this background and its own history of being subjected to an illegal occupation and apartheid that Namibia is, amongst others, participating in the ongoing advisory proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

In its written comments submitted to the ICJ on October 25, 2023, Namibia warned that "Israel is now attempting to commit, if not actively committing, genocide in the Occupied Palestinian Territory".

As per the statement of President Hage. Geingob on December 31, 2023, "No peace-loving human being can ignore the carnage waged against Palestinians in Gaza."

Namibia, therefore, calls on all States to act in accordance with their erga omnes obligations by taking all reasonable measures to stop the acts of genocide being perpetrated against the Palestinian people under the 1948 Genocide Convention.
