The Keetmanshoop regional office of the Ombudsman has been inundated with complaints from learners relating to their suspension and banning from classrooms, corporal punishment, and forceful cutting of hair.
This was revealed by the regional office head, Sylvester Sibungo when he addressed educators at the annual principals meeting at Keetmanshoop.
Sibungo says since the start of the year, the regional Ombudsman office has already received seven complaints relating to education matters.
Statistics show learners and teachers lodged 108 complaints against the education authority in 2022 relating to gratuity payments, recruitment issues, and learner suspensions.
"You would be surprised today that the Ombudsman has already received some cases against education this year. And this morning I received seven learners in uniform early in the morning, reporting an issue at the school. I started to think this was becoming a problem."
