A 27-year-old seven-year-old woman was admitted to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital after she was hit by a stray bullet, shot by a member of the Police Special Reserve Force this morning.
The victim, a restaurant employee in the center of town, had just arrived at work and was opening the workplace for the day.
A colleague and witness to the incident says that, upon arriving, they found members of the police arguing and attempting to arrest a group of people.
The witness says they decided to take shelter in the shop after police tried chasing them from the scene.
A preliminary police report states that police fired a warning shot to disperse the unruly group, which resulted in people running in various directions.
In the commotion, the 27-year-old woman was shot from the back, in her right thigh.
The last bullet did not hit the woman, the witness said.
The 27-year-old shooting victim was taken to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital, where she received medical care.
Police maintain they were attending to a request for assistance from an officer, who was undercover and reportedly under physical attack by the group in question.
