As the world marks International Women's Day today, the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) celebrates women under the theme "Inspiring Women in Leadership Inclusivity." 

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who addressed the occasion, highlighted the strides Namibia has taken in empowering women.

Nandi-Ndaitwah commended Namibia for the progress made thus far to advance women.

"I must say that March 8 has strong roots in Namibia now because, as we are sitting here right now, I have come to learn that there are four other events that are hosted to celebrate this day, and all of them, with no exception, have panel discussions, and to me, even if they have different attendances, we will have over 1000 people celebrating International Women's Day."

She said Namibia has a reason to celebrate in all spheres of life. "As Namibians, we have a lot to celebrate because we have managed to break those barriers that are keeping women out of the public space. All of us can say what we say and do what we can do simply because those barriers are broken."

Other women who were recognised for their leadership included Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and ICT Minister Emma Theofelus, who may be the youngest woman minister in Africa.

The event, organised by the National Union of Namibian Workers, serves as a platform to reflect on the achievements of women in various spheres and to advocate for continued efforts towards gender equality.

The occasion featured wellness programmes tailored for women, along with debates and discussions addressing women's issues. 

The Bet-El Youth Choir delighted guests with choral music performances.
