National Assembly debate on ECN appointments

Swapo Chief Whip in the National Assembly, Hamunyera Hambyuka, moved a motion without notice urging for consideration and approval of Gerson Tjihenuna and Pius Iikwambi as members of the Electoral Commission of Namibia, nominated by the President under Section 6 of the Electoral Act for a five-year term. 

The motion seeks to ensure fairness, impartiality, and transparency in election processes. 

Hambyuka emphasised the importance of approving the nominated members, highlighting their relevant experience outlined in their curriculum vitae.

NUNW celebrates women in leadership

As the world marks International Women's Day today, the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) celebrates women under the theme "Inspiring Women in Leadership Inclusivity." 

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who addressed the occasion, highlighted the strides Namibia has taken in empowering women.

Nandi-Ndaitwah commended Namibia for the progress made thus far to advance women.

Maximalliant Katjimune calls for investigation SME challenges

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Maximalliant Katjimune has called for an investigation into the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Namibia, emphasising the critical role the sector plays in the nation's economy.

Katjimune said the SME sector accounts for 90% of enterprises worldwide, employing 50% of the global workforce and contributing 40% to the gross domestic product (GDP) in emerging markets. 

Katjimune expressed concern over the low success rate of Namibian SMEs, estimating that around 70% fail shortly after commencement. 

President Mbumba announces new Ministerial appointments

President Nangolo Mbumba made new ministerial and deputy ministerial appointments on Friday afternoon.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute presided over the swearing-in of the officials into their new positions.

With the appointment of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the new Vice President, the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation had become vacant.

John Mutorwa was appointed as the new Deputy Prime Minister and will still remain the Minister of Works and Transport.
