President Nangolo Mbumba made new ministerial and deputy ministerial appointments on Friday afternoon.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute presided over the swearing-in of the officials into their new positions.

With the appointment of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the new Vice President, the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation had become vacant.

John Mutorwa was appointed as the new Deputy Prime Minister and will still remain the Minister of Works and Transport.

Dr. Peya Mushelenga was appointed as the new Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, while Emma Theofelus was appointed as Minister of Information and Communication Technology, a position Mushelenga held previously.

The appointment to a full ministerial portfolio makes Theofelus, aged 27, the youngest Cabinet Minister since Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who held the position of Director-General of the National Planning Commission at the same age in 1995.

Journalist-turned-politician Modestus Amutse is the new Deputy Minister of Information and Communication.

President Mbumba emphasised that the changes to these positions were not to suit any individual but for the sake of the country.

All the appointments are effective immediately.
