Swapo Party Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah called for concerted efforts to mitigate the drought situation experienced in some parts of the country due to low rainfall.
Speaking at the first Central Committee of the Swapo Party for this year, Nandi-Ndaitwah appealed to all regional coordinators and the nation at large to work in collaboration with the governors and councillors to see to it that whatever the government is making available to ease the drought situation and its impact must be done in the best interest of the people.
"Comrades and fellow Namibians, looking at the weather conditions, it seems that this year again, we may face another devastating impact of climate change. Our country and SADC face another dry spell due to poor rainfall. A severe drought is imminent, as both commercial and communal farmers anticipate a poor harvest and grazing. As a result, we could experience a lack of food and water for people as well as a lack of grazing for the animals. I therefore appeal to all our regional coordinators and the Namibian nation at large to work in collaboration with the regional governors and regional councillors."
The Swapo Vice President said the government is making various interventions, including putting to full production the green schemes to address the challenges of food insecurity.
