Namibians join South Africa in celebrating the 30th anniversary of freedom and democracy at a colourful event in Windhoek.

Relations between Namibia and South Africa have remained close, dating from the days of the liberation struggle, and the two countries are now on the path of fighting for economic emancipation.

Reading the speech on behalf of the South Africa Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, the High Commissioner of South Africa to Namibia, Thenjiwe Mtintso, said bilateral cooperation with Namibia as a natural strategic partner for South Africa covers a wide range of issues that are managed by 69 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding.

"Our bonds of solidarity as the two nations were forged in the colonial wars and battlegrounds for our liberation as a people and as a continent. Our common heritage, born out of the sweat and blood of our forebearers, requires us to work together, unlock bottlenecks, and create trade and investment opportunities for the common prosperity of the people in our respective countries and towards building a legacy of social and economic emancipation for generations to come."

While congratulating South Africa on its 30th anniversary, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, reaffirmed continued cooperation between the two countries.
