The Office of the Vice President will lead the government's genocide discussions starting on June 27.

Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah made this announcement at the 128th Ovambanderu Commemoration of the Battle of Otjunda in Okahandja.

The Vice President says it's no secret that the Namibian and German governments have been engaged in the Nama and Ovaherero in 1904–1908 discussions since 2016. 

As it stands now, the German government, says the Vice President, has admitted that it committed genocide and agreed to apologise and pay reparation.

"I will invite all traditional authorities to come to us to sit in one room and to share with them where we are, and depending on how far we go, the nation will be informed. As we are here now, we are hoping to find a lasting solution that will be in the interest of the affected communities in particular and the Namibian nation at large."

The Ovambanderu Traditional Authority also received a piece of land as a donation. 

On this day, the Ovambanderu community pays tribute to the fallen heroes of the battle of Otjunda, marking 128 years of the fierce battle between the Ovambanderu and the German troops.

The day is also important to Namibians, as it signifies the bravery and steadfastness of Kahimemua Nguvauva for his motherland and his people.
