The sixth session of the Children's Parliament, starting in July, will focus on the transformation of education.
It will also aim to find solutions to the educational challenges faced by children.
The Children's Parliament, based on the Namibian Constitution, which calls for freedom of expression and fundamental human rights, is an initiative of Parliament in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund.
Over 60 learners from the fourteen regions are expected to gather at the National Assembly for the one-week session held under the theme "Transforming Education in Namibia."
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, stated that the Children's Parliament is more than just a forum but a catalyst for change, empowering youth to engage in democratic processes and shaping a future where every child's voice is heard and rights are upheld.
During the upcoming session, youth representatives will gather to engage with expert presenters and delve into critical education issues such as equitable access, gender and violence, disability, governance, and the digital divide worsened by the pandemic.
Prior to this, learners will undergo an induction programme to prepare them for their two-year tenure as members of the sixth Children's Parliament, which will include a Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
For the first time since its inception, this year's Children's Parliament session will be officially opened by the President.
