A concerned group of former U17 players, who represented Namibia at the 2016 AFCON, held a peaceful demonstration at the Ministry of Sport in the capital, demanding payment for their participation in and victory at the competition.

The group, who were part of the national team that participated and won the Cup, stated that they never received the promised compensation after winning the regional youth competition.

They further claim they were taken out of school to attend a 3-month camp, with assurances that provisions would be made for them to write exams, which was not the case.

They have returned to see if the Ministry will finally fulfill their promises after years, as many of them are unemployed, facing dire financial straits, and some have become parents.

Deputy Director Irevne Ndjavera received the petition on behalf of the Ministry.
