China's Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, commended the Namibian government for its continued efforts to improve the living standards of its vulnerable population. 

Zhao made the remarks at Hoachanas, where the Hardap Governor's Social Housing Project, with the support of the Chinese Embassy, handed over a two-bedroom house to a family of people with disabilities.  

The Social Housing Project aims to restore the dignity of the elderly above the age of 100, including people with disabilities. 

"I am very proud that our embassy has made our contribution to the building of this house, and I think we should do more good things to benefit people here in the Hardap Region, and so we will certainly continue to provide our support."

For the Boudt family, who received the two-bedroom house, raising a child with physical disabilities comes with its own challenges. 

Dawid Boudt is the father of six and has lived in this corrugated iron house for more than ten years.

"Our son, at times, whenever he gets overwhelmed, should stress and fight with us here and through things around, we would fear that he can hurt himself because the house is made of iron and there are too many hazards around."

People taking care of children with disabilities are urged to seek assistance from the Ministry of Gender Equality and other organisations, such as the Namibia Association of Children with Disabilities.
