Namibia's men's tennis team performed exceptionally to win the Africa Group III Davis Cup in Abuja, Nigeria over the weekend, earning promotion to next year's World Group II series.

Namibia, ranked 77th globally in Tennis, will participate in the Davis Cup World Group II for only their second time in history.

Gerrie Dippenaar, the captain of the Namibia National Tennis Team, expresses happiness over their triumph in qualifying for World Group II Davis Cup, where they finished first among the six participating nations in the tournament.

Dippenaar emphasized the outcomes of the tournament, noting victories in their initial matches against Ghana (2-1), Nigeria (3-0), and Benin (3-0).

However, a 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe on Friday created a tightly contested conclusion to the tournament, with Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Namibia all tied on points heading into the final matches.

Dippenaar also highlighted their gratitude towards retired player Jean Erasmus for assisting them during their injuries.

Namibia secured the top position by defeating Ivory Coast 3-0 in the finals on Saturday. They achieved this by recording 12 wins and three losses, whereas Zimbabwe and Nigeria each won 10 matches and lost five, respectively.
