The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has surpassed the one million mark in voter registration.
Those who have not registered yet only have nine days to register, and the date will not be extended.
The general voter registration, which started on the 3rd of June, ends next week Thursday.
Following complaints from some quarters, the ECN says it has employed several strategies to smoothen and expedite the process, such as equipping registration points with multiple kits.
Speaking on nbc's News and Current Affairs show, The Daily RoundUp, ECN's Corporate Communications Officer, De Wet Siluka, emphasised the importance of registering on time to avoid the last-minute rush.
"What we have observed is that not many people are coming through; many people have not registered yet because registration points have been fixed since the commencement of voter registration on the 3rd of June. The first time I came here, the registration points were quite packed, but as we draw closer towards the end period, we can see some improvements in voter turnouts in the different constituencies; we have seen or recorded quite a good number in terms of other regions."
Notably, the Ohangwena, Omusati, Kunene, ||Kharas, and Kavango West Regions have surpassed 70% of their populations.
The ECN continues to push for high registration turnout, ensuring that the registration process is as efficient and accessible as possible for all eligible Namibians.
