Eluwa Special School hosted the 11th edition of its Winter Deaf Tournament, with learners from six regions participating over the weekend.

Since its inception in 2013, the Winter Deaf Sports Tournament has aimed to bring together learners from different schools in the region to participate in various sports codes, fostering unity despite physical challenges.

A different school hosts the tournament annually to promote fair play and good sportsmanship among the learners.

This year, seven schools participated, and the organizer plans to add more sports codes in the upcoming 12th edition.

Event organizer Samuel Nangolo spoke about the tournament setup.

Mariana Nathanael, Sport Chairperson and netball coach, expressed her joy in sports and her contribution to the special school.

Tom Schiefer, a volunteer teacher and football coach, shared challenges faced due to the learners' needs, emphasizing the importance of communication.

The tournament concluded with a prize-giving ceremony where Eluwa Resources School dominated in football and netball, emerging as the overall winner of the Winter Deaf tournament.
