Today marks exactly six months since the death of President Hage Geingob.
The 4th of February 2024 will forever go down in the annals of history as the day on which Namibia lost a sitting president.
The death of Dr. Geingob shook Namibia monumentally, causing the nation to unite in grief.
On that fateful day, it was as if the heavenly realms wanted to prepare and comfort the nation with soft nightly showers as the late Geingob quietly took his last breath at exactly 00:04 on the 4th of February.
His Vice President then made the announcement to unsuspecting Namibians, himself fighting back tears over his comrade.
Death is an inevitable part of life, but Namibians were dazed at hearing the news.
The grief was to be understood, given Geingob's larger-than-life personality, which was capable of even shielding any ailments.
Grief not being a ''once-off event'' has once again been highlighted, six months after Dr. Geingob's passing.
It is as if his subtle reminders to Namibians that they will miss him when he is gone are being fulfilled.
The late statesman christened the month of August a ''very important year''.
This was a gaffe he made in reference to it being the month during which he, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, and President Nangolo Mbumba celebrated birthdays.
On the third, the void he left was once again salient during the remembrance ceremony.
The gentle daily reminders of his stamp on everyday things are also being felt in the Geingo household.
Today marks 108 days without Kai Axaba, provoking discussions in Namibian homes.
And if they are happening, it is without a rebuttal from his often roaring voice, whether in a serious tone or the loudest laughter.
Just as the NDF symbolically showed the nation during the flypast of 7 fighter jets, from east to west with their commander disappearing, in signalling the nation to forge ahead, we, Namibians, are forging ahead.
Continue resting in peace, Kai Axaba.
