Germany's Ambassador to Namibia, Dr. Thorsten Hutter, recently visited northern Namibia to assess projects supported by the German government.

The Ambassador visited 10 commercial and cultural cooperation projects under the development cooperation portfolio.

They include the Valombola Vocational Training Centre, the K'Negongo Foundation, and the Agri-PV Project at UNAM's Ogongo Campus.

The K'Negongo Foundation, founded in 2020, was able to acquire a sanitary pad manufacturing machine with support from the German government and local partners.

The project is intended to supply young girls and women with sanitary pads to promote menstrual health and break the stigma around periods.

"This project has at least, for I think by now, 8000/9000 girls or young women, and with that project, through our project partner, it has been possible to keep those girls in school so that they can continue with their education. I believe that is very important."

The Agri-PV project was funded at N$70 million.

The goal is to create an agri-voltaic centre that will make simultaneous use of the land for agricultural purposes and solar energy generation.

It currently serves as a training field for university students.

"It's a test field so far, but of course the goal is to then, once it's finished, implement it and to have both agriculture, shade for and cover from radiation for the plant, and energy that you need for irrigation or cooling of the agricultural product."
