A Namibian delegation, led by President Nangolo Mbumba, will attend this year's Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

nbc reporter Selima Henock sat down with Jerobeam Shaanika, the Deputy Executive Director responsible for Multilateral Relations and Cooperation, to discuss the expectations of this year's forum.

The forum will commence with a meeting of senior officials on September 2 in Beijing, China. This will be followed by a ministerial meeting on the 3rd, with the forum itself expected to begin on the 5th.

Former Ambassador Shaanika believes that the forum presents many opportunities and serves as an occasion to strengthen cooperation.

In addition to the forum, Namibia will also host a business forum. This will provide opportunities for business partnerships between the two countries.

"This is a multilateral event with many other countries participating. But of course, it also provides an opportunity, and you have to seize it. The best way is to define the objective of your mission. Once you define that objective, the resources at your disposal must align with the objective you have set."

Namibia is currently the only African country exporting beef to China. Other products such as mutton, grapes, and aquatic products will soon follow: "Of course, we also export fur and skin products, as well as table grapes. We are looking at those areas. It is up to us to ensure the sustainability of the supply. The purpose of diplomacy is to solve problems and create understanding between peoples and countries. If you live in isolation, you will be overwhelmed by problems. Diplomacy should be exercised without emotion."

Shaanika also discussed the win-win cooperation between Namibia and China amidst global uncertainty: "When we say 'win-win' situation, we must ensure that we maximize the benefits. Investments here must benefit our people. Therefore, it should be a win-win situation. Otherwise, if only one side wins, our slogan will not resonate with the people. Diplomacy should be exercised without emotions. In international relations, interests prevail, guiding the engagement between states and non-state actors."

FOCAC is a platform established by China and African countries for collective consultation and dialogue. It serves as a cooperation mechanism among developing countries.

Currently, 53 African countries have established diplomatic relations with China and the African Union (AU) Commission.
