The Vice President of Namibia, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, says the acceleration of the country's developmental agenda can be attained at a fast pace through public-private partnerships. 

She made these remarks during the inauguration of the Onawa police station in the Oshana Region.

The N$2 million police station will serve Onawa, a fast-growing informal settlement, and others in the surrounding area.

Sash Trading donated a containerised police substation, fencing, bulk filling, and 100 police reflector jackets valued at N$500,000. 

The Vice President says the donation is a symbol of unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting citizens and property, and ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors alike. 

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah says rising criminal activities remain a concern in some parts of the country and that the establishment of the police station in the settlement will ensure its residents and visitors feel safe and without fear of criminals. 

"You have a police station, and this police station should serve as a beacon of safety and trust, fostering strong relationships between our law enforcement officers and the residents of Onawa and Oshakati. It must be a place where justice is sought and safety is assured. The presence of this station should be able to maintain the peace that citizens in Onawa and Oshakati deserve."

Deputy Minister of Safety and Security Lucia Witbooi says the establishment of the Onawa police station is a critical step forward, as it will not only serve as a hub for law enforcement activities but also as a beacon of safety and a symbol of a collective commitment to uphold the rule of law. 

"The donation of this facility comes at a time during which there are various security challenges, including the fight against crime, protection of vulnerable populations, and preservation of peace and order." 

The station can host 34 staff members and is already fully operational.
