A 45-year-old man was arrested on stock theft charges after he was caught with 14 stolen Bonsmara studs from Farm Omantumba in the Hochfeld area of Okahandja District, Otjozondjupa Region.

The cattle are valued at N$426,000.

According to regional community liaison officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the suspect was arrested on Saturday morning, but his four accomplices managed to flee and are still on the run.

Mbeha says the suspects were seen loading the stolen cattle between Friday night and Saturday morning, after which Hochfeld Police and Nyime Anti-Poaching Unit were alerted.

“One suspect was arrested, and about four suspects managed to flee, of which two suspects are well known; all the cattle were recovered and handed back to the owner; one truck, as well as a sedan used in the commission of the offence, were impounded.”

The suspect, a Namibian national, is set to appear before Okahandja Magistrate's Court this week.
Police investigations continue.
