Major road infrastructure development in the ||Kharas and Hardap regions is on the cards, with some plans for the envisaged road upgrades already being designed.

Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Conrad Lutombi revealed this at the official inauguration of the Tses to !Gochas section trunk road runs onto the B1 road between Keetmanshoop and Mariental.

"We have completed the design of the phase from the !Gochas intersection to Mariental, which is about 30 kilometres. We are busy preparing the tender documents to hand to contractors so that we can proceed with the pricing. We are committed to completing that project. At the same time, we have received the preliminary design for the Tses to Keetmanshoop road, and we have also appointed a consultant for the Keetmanshoop to Grunau road. I must also announce here, Honourable Deputy Prime Minister, that we are in the process of appointing a consultant to commence the design for the Keetmanshoop to Aroab to Klein Manasse roads."

Dr. Lutombi furthermore revealed that consultants are at an advanced stage with the design plan for the road from Walvisbay to Solitaire reaching Maltahohe.

The Road Fund Administration Chief Executive Officer, Ali Ipinge, also echoed plans for road upgrades in the region.

"We have decided, and I see my CFO is also here in the room, but the leadership has decided that we are going to provide a full rehabilitation of this road linking into Tses. So, this certainly happens once phase two of the remaining section between Keetmans and Tses starts. We then asked the appointed contractor to make sure the access road is fully rehabilitated for the benefit of residents of Tses."

Representative of KfW German Development Bank, Ursula Hein-Rooinasie, which co-funded the recently rehabilitated Tses to !Gochas section also witnessed the road inauguration.

The RA and RFA also pledged a donation of N$40,000 to schools: Blouwes Primary School will receive N$10,000, St Theresia Primary School N$20,000, and Nowak Primary School N$10,000.
