Namibia has secured a significant funding package of 8.8 million euros to bolster its green industrialisation efforts, as announced by Green Hydrogen Commissioner James Mnyupe during the closing of the Global Green Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek.

The funding breakdown includes 3 million euros from the Dutch government, approximately 1.25 million euros from the EU Commission, and 4.6 million euros from the German government.

This financial support aims to enhance the capabilities of the Ministry of Mines and Energy in fostering a green hydrogen economy and advancing industrialisation initiatives in Namibia.

Key activities funded by this package will include conducting strategic environmental assessments and deploying up to ten meteorological masts in the southern region to measure wind quality, which is crucial for hydrogen production.

The EU Commission has also entrusted STG Namibia with a 25 million euro grant facility, complementing the Dutch government's earlier commitment of 40 million euros.

This funding is expected to play a pivotal role in establishing a robust green hydrogen sector in Namibia, which is positioning itself as a central player in southern Africa's hydrogen landscape.

The announcement came at the conclusion of the inaugural Global African Hydrogen Summit, which gathered over 1,000 delegates, including government officials, industry leaders, and investors from across Africa and beyond.

The summit focused on collaboration and investment opportunities in the emerging hydrogen sector, highlighting Namibia's potential to lead in green energy initiatives.
