China has approved Namibia's export of mutton and dried fruits.
This was confirmed by President Nangolo Mbumba at his arrival from Beijing, China, today.
President Mbumba led the Namibian delegation to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit and held bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening ties between Namibia and China.
The President described the approval of the exportation of mutton and dried fruits as a positive outcome.
"The documents were already prepared and approved, first by the ambassadors, then by ministers for international relations, and we approved them. And in terms of cooperation, it was worth our effort and energy. A little bit later, we got permission now to market our goat meat and mutton to China and the fruits, and they are going to give us preferential import in terms of when we import our things. That's that's positive."
Moreover, President Mbumba reaffirmed business opportunities between the two countries.
"Chinese companies that are operating in Namibia, whether in uranium mines, lithium mines, and other things, they are very, very happy. In addition, we treat them well, as long as they obey our laws and regulations," he said, adding "We had meetings just Namibian meetings, and I had a meeting between the leadership of China and the leadership of Namibia. President Xi Jinping gave his remarks. He expressed his condolences to Namibia for the loss of President Geingob. In terms of assistance. What do we need? We need extra support. In terms of our drought."
President Mbumba expressed his satisfaction with the trip. "So overall, it was a successful mission. So let us continue to build our country. They praised our stability. They praise the way we do things in Namibia; we don't debate things, but we don't quarrel. We are a country of peace and therefore a country of development."
