The president of the Rally for Democracy and Progress, Mike Kavekotora, and Vice President Kennedy Shekupakela retained their respective positions at the recently held 4th National Ordinary Convention in Rundu. 

At the same convention, Cecil Nguvauva was elected as the party's Secretary General, deputised by Methumo Nghimwena. 

This was revealed at an RDP media briefing held in Windhoek on Thursday. 

The convention was held after an internal leadership court battle at the Electoral Tribunal on August 28 where Kandy Nehova, one of the founders of the party, was told that he had no claim to the party. 

According to Nguvauva, the judgement was that the Nehova faction had no jurisdiction to claim the presidency of the party.

Nguvauva said the elected members of the central committee will serve from 2024 to 2029, as the party's statutes stipulate.

He said the party will soon convene a conference to put in place its national executive committee.

The delegates to this conference, Nguvuava said, will draw up the list of candidates for RDP's National Assembly delegates in the upcoming elections.

He assured the party's supporters that the RDP is still vibrant, that it is here to stay, and will continue to defend the interests of the country's citizens. 

Meanwhile, Amanda Tsou from the Nehova faction said they are not worried about these developments since they have appealed the tribunal's decision to the Electoral Court.
