A 30-year-old Namibian woman was apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs into the country. The South African Police Services (SAPS), in collaboration with SARS customs and immigration officials, were alerted to the woman's arrival after intelligence reports indicated that a drug mule from São Paulo was scheduled to land at 07:25 on Sunday morning. The suspect was intercepted and arrested in the airport's immigration section.

SAPS confirmed the arrest on their social media pages.

Upon her arrest, she was taken to a local hospital, where medical X-rays revealed foreign objects in her stomach. Authorities have so far retrieved over 60 capsules of suspected cocaine from the woman’s body. The total quantity of the smuggled drugs remains undetermined as the process of removing the substances continues.
