President Nangolo Mbumba has extended well wishes to the people of Germany as they celebrate German Unity Day.

In a letter addressed to German President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Mbumba said the historic day is a reminder of the importance of the values of unity, peace, progress, and values that bind the two nations and peoples.

The German Unity Day marks the unification and transformation of Germany since the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall 34 years ago.

The public holiday also commemorates the formal creation of a single German state with the joining of East Germany to West Germany in 1990.

The country was previously divided into two blocs in 1945 by Allied forces that emerged victorious in World War 2.

President Mbumba described the reunification as a sterling example of overcoming historical challenges and the triumph of unity through dialogue and cooperation.

He stated that Namibians cherish the long-standing friendship shared with Germany and the continued support it renders to Namibia’s development endeavours.

“I have no doubt that we will continue to consolidate and further strengthen our cooperation for the mutual benefit of our people, “Dr. Mbumba said.

He further extended well wishes of good health, renewed strength, and success to Dr. Steinmeier.
