The University of Namibia (UNAM) awarded degrees to 669 students during its spring graduation ceremony, including 15 PhDs.

UNAM Vice-Chancellor Kenneth Matengu praised the graduates for their hard work and perseverance throughout their academic journeys.

In his address, Prof. Matengu stated, "Today, you will receive a qualification that marks you as an educated individual. But what will you do with it? Will you contribute to the economic growth of this nation or point fingers and blame others? True development starts with self-reflection." Graduates received qualifications in health sciences, education (the largest group), business, engineering, and the arts. The ceremony also honoured the 15 PhD recipients, recognised for their outstanding contributions to various sectors across Namibia.

Matengu further remarked, "Earning a PhD is no small feat. When someone says, 'Call me Doctor,' understand that it reflects their hard work. But a PhD is not about pride; it shows you've expanded the frontiers of knowledge, impacting both science and policy." The Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of ongoing learning and adapting to a rapidly evolving world. "The dedication you showed in earning your degree will need to evolve in the workplace. At work, you won't have supervisors pushing you. You must be your own motivator, your own starter."

With their degrees in hand, the UNAM graduates of the Spring Class of 2024 are now ready to step into the next chapter of their lives, armed with knowledge and the potential to drive change.
